Now that the sun’s been out in London for more than a couple of days in a row I’ve been thinking about us getting together in other ways than sitting upstairs in a pub.
There are lots of things that we can do without electricity and without power – arguably the most important things we should be doing are meeting, talking, explaining and understanding and we can do those pretty much anywhere.
So I made a list off the top of my head of free and open spaces in London where we could do flashmobs and other events (perhaps using Open Space – heh!) without paying “the man” and getting some fresh(ish) air at the same time. Please add to it, fill in detail, re-categorise, etc. But also get ready to come out into the light more often.

Maybe it’d be nice to have a “ready your book” morning, where everyone just gets together with a book they’ve been putting off reading, and reads it. I’m sure we’ve all got stuff we’ve been meaning to get to… Maybe we could then tell each other what we’re reading and exchange tips about good, interesting books.
Suw, that sounds like a brilliant idea. The cross-pollination that happens at the tuttle is a source of inspiration for me. Taking that to reading sounds great.

I love the idea of “reading afternoons”. Wanted to organise that in Lausanne with some friends long ago (like “board game evenings”). How about some form of “world wide book reading day” — but with a better acronym/name? I’d be in.
The RSA lecture series is free and open. They offer a range of Tuttle-esque topics and provide the chance for us to all get together in central London on a regular basis. Drinks in the bar afterwards, or perhaps we could all just go for a lovely walk along the Thames on a balmy summers eve and plot and scheme into the wee hours.
Coming up… Steven Pinker, Sir Ken Robinson, Gore Vidal… many others…
Just had… Charles Leadbeater, Clay Shirky, Kofi Annan, Wangari Maathai, Al Gore, Jeffrey Sachs and Craig Venter.
They can book out fast, so pounce if you see something you like.
Look forward to seeing you there perhaps?
Libby
They sound good, Libby!
The summer is slipping away… I hope we can get an open spaces Tuttle in become the rains arrive.
Tuttle take-over of Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park..?
